Why Pediatric Dentistry?

Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of the mouth. Just like you take your children to see a pediatrician for their well-baby checks, pediatric dentists are trained and equipped to see your children from the very earliest age to set the stage for a lifetime of great oral health.

Our office is designed with the child in mind. From the lobby to the treatment area and everywhere in between, our office is set up to make your child feel comfortable, relaxed, and have a great time with our talented staff.

Pediatric dentists just see kids., which means they can specialize their approach to this fun and energetic age group. Pediatric dentists have completed 2-3 extra years of specialized training to prepare them to treat children of all ages, sizes and personalities. In addition to learning about dental treatment planning for young patients, this training also includes studying growth and development, child psychology, and techniques and skills to help young children feel relaxed and comfortable while receiving dental treatment. Some pediatric dentists, like Dr. Frandsen, are also trained to treat children and adolescents with special health care needs, like ADHD, Down Syndrome, etc.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Dental Association all recommend that your children be seen within the first 6 months following the appearance of their first tooth or around their first birthday, whichever is first.

American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) Certification

American Board of Pediatric Dentistry logo

The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) was organized by the American Society of Dentistry for Children in 1940. It is the only ADA-recognized certifying board for the specialty of pediatric dentistry.

The vision of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is to achieve excellence in pediatric dentistry through certification of all pediatric dentists. Pediatric dentists that are certified by the ABPD have met the standard of excellence set forth in providing high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs. When a pediatric dentist becomes certified, he or she has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience required to deliver the highest quality of patient care. Certification also reflects a dentist's commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education. ABPD-certified dentists have a desire to practice pediatric dentistry at the highest level and are dedicated to constantly re-evaluating their practice in light of the most recent scientific evidence.
